Atlas Jiu-Jitsu Expands to Buda with Grand Opening of New Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy
(Buda EDC) New location offers youth and adult programming focused on confidence, discipline, fitness, and community connection
BUDA, TX, February 3,2026 — The Buda Economic Development Corporation (Buda EDC) is proud to welcome Atlas Jiu-Jitsu Buda, a new Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy now open in the heart of Buda, bringing world-class instruction and a values-driven martial arts culture to one of Central Texas’ fastest-growing communities.
Atlas Jiu-Jitsu Buda officially opened January 5, 2026, marking the organization’s fifth location nationwide. Atlas Jiu-Jitsu first launched in Albany, New York in 2011, and has earned a reputation for competitive excellence, including team trophies at major International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) tournaments such as the IBJJF Toronto Open, IBJJF Boston Open, and IBJJF New York Open. The academy’s prestigious lineage traces back to Carlson Gracie, one of the sport’s most respected names in Jiu-Jitsu.
Atlas Jiu-Jitsu Buda, located at 2581 South Loop 4, Unit 525, offers kids classes (ages 4+) and adult classes, welcoming students of all skill levels from beginners stepping onto the mats for the first time to experienced competitors refining their technique. The academy’s program emphasizes important life and performance skills including coordination, focus, body awareness, confidence, emotional control, discipline, teamwork, and overall fitness.

The Buda location is co-led by Jim “Yeti” Niemie, a highly accomplished competitor and instructor who has trained under Atlas founder Edward “Scissorhands” Anthony since 2014. Niemie has earned IBJJF gold medals across North America and achieved top 10 world rankings in his division as a blue, purple, and brown belt. He is also a University at Albany football alumnus and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran with two combat deployments to Iraq.

Atlas founder Edward “Scissorhands” Anthony is a 3rd-degree black belt under Julio “Foca” Fernandez and brings elite competitive experience to the Atlas organization, including multiple Pan American titles, world-ranking achievements, and international medal finishes at some of the sport’s most prestigious tournaments.
